Balakumar Paramalingam starts learning Carnatic music from the age of 9

under the able guidance of his father Mridangam and Ghatam player Sinathamby Paramalingam.

 His artistic career was done with great masters of percussions.He is a student of the well known and top ranking mridangam artistes :

Karaikudi R Krishnamurthy,AS Ranganathan and AS Krishnan .He also excels in the art of playing the Kanjira and the Morsing. “Bala” has shared the stage with the leading artists of Indian classical music, including A S Murali , E Janardhan,Manickam Yogeswaran,Neyveli Radhakrishna, Ghatam Uma Shankar,Dr M Lalitha… He has collaborated with many styles of music and worked with international artists: • Violinist Gilles Apap • Bassist Dominique di Piazza • Drummer Jean-my Truong He created the group CARNATIC JAZZ with Dominique di Piazza,Jean-my Truong and Neyveli Radhakrishna. He is also a pedagogue who is sharing his music in various masterclasses and seminars . Balakumar is a rising musician and certainly one of the best representative mridangam artist which is still little known in Europe.
